About the guest

For over a decade, Philadelphia artist and Parsons alumni M.K Komins has been passionately committed to the pursuit of creative excellence. Their work uses lush, dreamy realism and bold, hyper-saturated color to explore the juxtaposition between the glamorous empowerment of identity and the fight for human acceptance. M.K. uses a variety of mediums like traditional acrylics and oils, and newer digital art. In some cases, working in an experimental image making technique that involves painting broad, digital color, printing on canvas or giclee, then striping and manipulating the pigment with chemicals such as acetone to create tonal planes. They then build back detail with layers of traditional paint mediums like acrylics and oils. The process is a practical application of their quest to explore and expose empathy; in order to rebuild a more honest construct of humanity, we must first be willing to destroy, re-approach, and rebuild our perspective.

With a vast and diverse range of skills, M.K.’s client roster includes work with companies such as Titmouse Animation and Universal Studios, as well as large-scale creative collaborations with companies like Lord & Taylor and The Special Olympics.

Their work has been highlighted online by Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, Juxtapoz Magazine, Hi Fructose, Creative Debuts, Create! Magazine, and can be found in print in Pikchur Magazine, Brut Magazine, Create! Magazine, and Creative Bloch. M.K.’s art has been shown and sold in galleries spanning from Los Angeles to London.
