Art, Tea, and Legacy: Lynnette & Eric Dodson's Creative Journey

Step right into 'The Truth in This Art' podcast, guided by your host, Rob Lee. In today’s conversation, I talk with Eric and Lynnette Dodson, the visionary owners behind Couples Tea House, a Baltimore-based gem specializing in premium loose-leaf tea, tea accessories, and tea education. Stemming from their shared love for tea, Eric and Lynnette embarked on a journey to craft a legacy for their family while advocating for healthier beverage alternatives. Rooted in community wellness, their business, as a small black-owned and woman-owned establishment, aspires to redefine urban drinking habits, initiating conversations about embracing nourishing choices.

In this dialogue, we peel back the layers on:

  • How Couples Tea House emerged from Eric and Lynnette's desire to foster healthier living and leave a lasting legacy for their family while transforming the way communities perceive beverages.
  • The art of tea curation as Eric and Lynnette handpick a diverse selection of over 52 teas, accommodating various palates, and crafting a holistic experience with inclusive food choices like vegan and gluten-free options.
  • Uncover the essence of an "urban tea experience" at Couples Tea House, as Lynnette and Eric reveal the synergistic blend of tea, literature, music, and art that shapes their space and redefines traditional tea consumption.
  • Join the conversation on the podcast episode as Lynnette and Eric passionately discuss their commitment to tea education, elaborating on the myriad health benefits of tea and their mission to create a warm and inviting haven for community engagement.

Lynnette shares their journey of building a successful tea business in Baltimore. They started as friends at Morgan State University and their shared love for tea and desire to make healthy lifestyle changes led them to start their own business. They began by participating in farmer's markets and pop-ups and eventually opened their brick-and-mortar store in 2021. Their goal is to create an urban tea experience that combines tea, books, music, and art. They curate a menu of over 52 teas to cater to different tastes and offer a variety of food options, including vegan and gluten-free choices. Lynnette and Eric are passionate about educating their customers about the benefits of tea and creating a welcoming community space.
