About The Truth In This Art
The Truth In This Art is a podcast interview series supporting the vibrancy and development of Baltimore and beyond's arts and culture. My vision is to create a deeper sense of community in the city of Baltimore by highlighting Baltimore’s entrepreneurs, artists, and cultural leaders.
This storytelling series grew out of my desire to shift the common narratives about the city of Baltimore into a more positive light. Conversations about Baltimore are often narrowly focused on crime, when in reality, Baltimore is rich with diverse cultural influences, including artists, small business owners, and many other community members dedicated to creating positive change. When I created The Truth In This Art two years ago, I set out to amplify these voices in order to paint a more truthful picture of Baltimore and its people.
For many years now, I have been deeply committed to creating art that makes Baltimore residents proud of their city and its brilliance. I have hosted several other podcast projects, including MTR’s Robcast, Unofficially Black, and Let’s Watch It Again. I have been a resident podcaster at Baltimore Improv Group Theater since 2019 and have also headlined at the Baltimore Podcast Festival, Light City Festival, and the Charm City Mafia Podcast Festival. I believe that my expertise in the podcasting medium along with my love of Baltimore and all it has to offer is clearly reflected in this project.
In an effort to highlight the beauty and diversity of Baltimore’s influence, I have intentionally curated a wide variety of guests to feature on the show, ranging from emerging artists such as Monica Ikegwu to cultural leaders like Dr. Joanne Martin, co-founder of The National Great Blacks In Wax Museum. Each episode ranges from about 30 minutes to one hour long, and explores the guest’s background, their work, and their inspirations. Since the project’s inception, I have published 196 episodes that are available for public consumption on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Google Podcasts. In the past year alone, the show has accumulated 14,000 downloads. In order to reach a wide audience and further our engagement in the community, we utilize social media to promote each episode.
