From Arts to Advocacy: Amanda Morell's Baltimore-inspired Journey

Brief summary of episode:

Amanda Morell has been the Program Manager for Maryland Citizens for the Arts (MCA) since March 2018. Prior to joining MCA, Amanda spent 3 years with the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County (ACAAC), where she managed the Exhibits and Arts in Education Programs.

Amanda has always had a love of the performing arts. A Baltimore native, she attended Baltimore School for the Arts for high school where she studied music and flute instruction under Sarah Nichols. She studied ballet at “Let’s Dance Studio” in Towson for 13 years before leaving for college in Ohio. After taking an economics course at Ohio Wesleyan University, Amanda decided to come back to Baltimore to finish her degree. She graduated from the University of Baltimore with a B.S. in Business Administration. Upon finishing her degree, she was selected as one of ten Urban Arts Leadership Program (UALP) Fellows in the class of 2014/2015. At the same time, she began working with Amy Hornberger at Baltimore School of Dance. After completing the UALP fellowship, Amanda was hired by the organization with which she was placed, ACAAC.

Having grown up in Baltimore with access to a rich arts education, Amanda knew from a young age that arts advocacy was paramount to a well rounded education.
